Mijia Monitor hanging lamp usage report

Computers are our productivity tool. We spend a long time in front of the computer screen every day, whether for work or for entertainment. I believe that most people do not like to work and live in a dark environment. High-power desk lamps are usually used to directly enhance the brightness of the ambient light. However, this method is not very good for the lighting effect of the computer display area. The effect of light refraction causes the screen to reflect light and it is not clear to see, and it looks vague.

Therefore, ordinary desk lamps cannot completely solve the light problem. I have experienced a BenQ ScreenBar screen hanging light some time ago, but many people feel that it is a luxury to spend more than $100 on a screen light. There are already many products such as monitor hanging lights on the market. Xiaomi’s recently launched Mijia monitor hanging lamp can have similar functions for one-third of the price. Tookfun recently purchased this product, so what about its performance?

Appearance details

Different from the white packaging that Xiaomi often uses, the outer packaging of the Mijia monitor hanging lamp is black as the main color, which is quite technological. The product name and features are introduced in the lower left corner. Like BenQ’s products, it adopts asymmetrical light design and will not cause reflections on the screen. However, the Mijia monitor hanging light adds a 2.4GHz wireless remote control, and the color temperature/brightness can be easily adjusted.

There is a cushion sponge inside the top cover of the package, and you can see that the accessories are placed in the shock-absorbing insulation layer after opening the cover. The longest is the lamp, and the bottom is “Wireless Remote Control”, “Type-C Power Cord”, and “Lighting Base”.

Lamp body & base

Mijia display hanging lights are mainly used for desktop displays. The length of the lamp body is 448mm, and the cross-section diameter is 23mm. The shell is made of all-metal aluminum alloy, and related information such as power is marked on the side. The parameters show that the rated input is 5V/1A, and the maximum power is 5W (using 80 LED modules). In addition, it is learned from the manual that the color temperature range of the hanging lamp is 2700-6500K, the color rendering index is Ra90, and the parameter configuration is quite excellent. The light emitting board of the hanging lamp is a matte diffuser, and the lamp beads inside can be vaguely seen through the panel.

In the middle of the lamp body is a power supply contact, and a magnetic contact is used for power supply between the lamp body and the base. The attractive magnetic force is enough to firmly fix the lamp body on the base. This makes us not only easy to install and adjust, but also looks more concise.

The base of the hanging lamp is a clip-on design, which can be fixed on a screen with a thickness of ≤32mm (not for notebook computers. Because on a screen with a thickness of less than 10mm, the weight clamp behind the base cannot hold the back of the monitor). The base is also made of metal material, which is quite heavy. The parts in contact with the display have non-slip rubber, which can not only play the role of non-slip fixing, but also protect the display frame from scratches.

The Type-C power supply interface is located on the base. The standard A-C power cord is easy to find the interface, the USB port of the monitor, the USB port of the computer, the charging head and even the mobile power supply are all available.

The contact of the base is designed into a strip shape, which gives the lamp body a pitch adjustment range of about 25°. Users can make certain adjustments according to the actual situation such as the height of their computer desk and monitor to reduce glare.

You can see the actual effect after installation, the color matching of the Mijia display hanging lamp is very compatible with the display. And the USB cables are routed on the back, which does not affect the appearance at all. Compared with the traditional table lamp, the table top becomes much neater in an instant.

Remote control

The Mijia monitor hanging lamp is equipped with a knob wireless remote control. The size of the remote control is a cylinder with a diameter of 66.5mm x 34mm, with the same black color as the lamp body. The surface is frosted and has a good touch, but the ability to resist oil stains is weak. The back cover of the remote control should have a non-slip coating process, which is very stable when placed on the desktop. The remote control has a two-stage structure design. The upper part is an adjustment knob, which can be rotated 360° left and right without limit. It can control the switch of the display hanging lamp, and can adjust the color temperature/brightness, which is very easy to adjust.

Short press to turn on/off the light.
Rotate clockwise directly to increase brightness, and vice versa to decrease brightness.
After pressing the knob, turn it again to adjust the color temperature of the light (the color temperature range is 2700-6500K).
Long press for more than 2 seconds to directly enter the preset computer mode (color temperature 2700K, brightness 50%).

This kind of remote control without wires is very convenient. The remote control uses 2.4GHz wireless connection. According to the official publicity: 2 AAA batteries can provide up to 2 years of battery life (when the remote control is operated 4 times a day, each time is 3 seconds). If you are like the author, the computer desk is not far from the bed, then put the remote control on the bedside at night, and the Mijia display hanging light can even act as a night light.

Actual experience

The most important thing is of course the actual experience. As mentioned earlier, the Mijia monitor hanging lamp uses a matte diffuser, so while the light is more uniform and soft, the unavoidable beam angle will also be larger. The effect of actually adjusting the pitch angle is as above. When the pitch angle is the lowest, the light from the hanging lamp will obviously shine on the screen, and the reflection of the iMac base is very strong. It can even be seen that from the gap between the hanging lamp and the screen, part of the light directly shines on the back of the screen.

Adjusting the pitch angle, you can see that the light range begins to change, and the light on the screen is reduced a lot. The weakened reflection of the base of the iMac is an obvious sign. At this time, the strong light coverage moves forward. But because the brightness of the edge decays quickly, the eyes of the user sitting in front of the computer will not see too obvious lamp bead glare.

Test the desktop illuminance of the Mijia display hanging lamp. The height of the hanging lamp is about 48cm, and the measurement is in the range of 10-50cm in front of the display. (Because it is not strictly controlled to reach the maximum lighting capacity of the hanging lamp, the parameters are only for reference.)

In this case, the lowest illuminance at the edge of the desktop measurement range is 370 Lux. The illuminance standard for “writing and reading in the living room” stipulated in the “Architectural Lighting Design Standard” is above 300 Lux. The central illuminance has reached 636Lux, which is above the standard of 500Lux for “high-end office”. Coupled with the high color rendering index of Ra90, the Mijia monitor hanging lamp can meet the desktop illumination needs of users for office and reading.

Then there is the topic of “pull out the diffuser to improve performance” that many users have begun to discuss. We actually measured that removing the diffuser can indeed make the light beam angle of the hanging lamp smaller and the light intensity boundary more obvious. But this also reduces the uniformity of lighting on the desktop. At the same time, after controlling the exposure, we can also see from the light that the Mijia hanging lamp does adopt an asymmetric light path design.

In the state that the diffuser is not removed, although the light has no obvious dividing line between strength and weakness. However, the attenuation of the low-light area is faster, and the screen in the low-light area and the direct light received by the human eye are actually controlled in a lower range. As far as my own experience is concerned, the impact of the Mijia monitor hanging lamp on the screen is mainly concentrated in the small area at the top. When the screen is turned on, it will not have a significant impact on the screen display. Of course, if you prefer to remove the lighting effect of the diffuser, it will not be too troublesome to remove it manually. Remove the plastic plug on the side of the lamp body, you can directly pull out the diffuser.

As for the effect of use on a laptop. I don’t think it is appropriate.

Usually when we use a notebook, the screen is tilted backward. In this way, the illumination angle of the hanging lamp needs to be adjusted higher so as not to cause reflection, but this way the light can easily reach the eyes directly.

The same is true. When using it on an ordinary monitor, try not to tilt the monitor backward. Vertical to the desktop is best. Otherwise, the illumination angle of the lamp will be too high and it will hit the eyes directly.

Conclusion

For a product that sells for less than US$50, the experience provided by the Mijia monitor hanging lamp at the same price is quite excellent. High color rendering index, high illuminance, wireless remote control knob, metal lamp body, etc. are all its advantages; the only controversial point is the actual light path lighting effect. Users who do not like the soft light scheme can also manually take out the diffuser. The actual The impact is not that big.

In fact, it can be seen from the design of the diffuser that the design ideas of Mijia monitor hanging lights are different from BenQ ScreenBar. BenQ gave priority to controlling the light outside the screen, so after the light path was designed, it chose a high transmittance light board to minimize the interference to the preset light path; Mijia monitor hanging lights pay more attention to the lighting performance of the desktop, so it actively chose soft Mask, it can bring you uniform and bright desktop lighting effect. So weighing the pros and cons, combined with the price, we think that the Mijia monitor hanging lamp is still worth choosing.
