Review of Xiaomi Mobile Power 3 (20000mAh/Super Flash Charge Version)

I recently purchased Xiaomi Power Bank 3 (Super Flash Charge Edition). This version is an upgraded version of Power Bank 3 (high-end version). The same is a 20000mAh battery with 74Wh battery energy. The difference is that the maximum output power of the Super Flash Charger is increased to 50W. With two USB-A ports and one USB-C port, it can output at the same time. The large capacity of 20000 mA can charge 1 laptop, 1 mobile phone and 1 tablet at the same time.

Below Tookfun will give you a test of the performance of this power bank.

Appearance details

It is consistent with other accessories recently launched by Xioami. The packaging is white overall, with the product picture on the front and the product name and product features at the bottom.

The back is the product specifications:

The package contains a power bank, a USB-C to USB-C data cable, and instructions. C to C data cable, the cable length is 0.5m visually. Use all black design, dedicated dedicated line, built-in E-Marker chip, can support maximum 5A high current.

First look at the appearance of the mobile power supply. The whole adopts one-piece plastic shell, the shell is treated with UV spray paint, and the surface texture is delicate. The design is also very simple, with only one MI logo on the front.

When leaving the factory, the top and bottom sides are protected by adhesive stickers. Only one high-gloss button on the side is seen as a whole. The buttons are polished, and the touch is relatively soft, which can form a clear contrast with the surroundings, which is convenient for blind pressing. The button is used to check the battery level. After pressing, the remaining battery indicator will light up to help us check the remaining battery.

Uncovering the adhesive sticker, you can see that the bottom of the mobile power supply is treated with a ceramic-like high-gloss process. The texture is very good, and the parameters of the product are marked on it.

The other end also uses a high-gloss process. There are 3 USB ports and 4 LED indicators. The output parameters of each interface are marked below the interface. 2 USB-A ports, 1 USB-C port. The USB-C interface also has a bright orange color treatment as a distinction. All three interfaces support output, and the USB-C interface in the middle supports input.

The upper and lower ends of the mobile power supply are designed to be recessed inward. It is estimated to reduce scratches on the shiny surface when placed.

Compared with other mobile power supplies.

From left: Xiaomi wireless power bank (youth version), Xiaomi power bank 3 (super flash charging version), Xiaomi power bank 2

Compared with the wireless power bank (youth version) previously released by Xiaomi, Xiaomi 3 is slightly longer. It is a bit longer than the old Xiuao Power Bank 2, about 2.5cm. There is not much difference in width.

Briefly summarize the appearance of Mi Power Bank 3 (Super Flash Charger). The texture and feel of the frosted shell are very good, and the appearance is good. But if you simply go out shopping, it is not recommended to bring this power bank. Because it’s really heavy. This power bank is more suitable for business trips and travel, as well as users who need laptop charging.

Charge and discharge test

Xiaomi Power Bank 3 (Super Flash Charger) can be output from 3 USB ports.

Use an ammeter to test the USB-A (OUT1 port). There are many protocols supported, including:

  • APPLE 5V/2.4A
  • BC1.2, DCP 5V/1.5A
  • QC3.0 5V 9V 12V 20V
  • SAMSUNG-AFC 5V 9V 15W
  • HUAWEI-FCP 5V 9V 18W

The highlight is that it is compatible with QC3.0 ClassB, which is the 20V gear of QC3.0. This one is relatively rare. Most mobile power sources and charging heads only support QC3.0 9V gear. At the same time, it is also compatible with the fast charging protocols of Xiaomi 9, Redmi K20 Pro and other fast charging models that use SMB1390 charge pump. It is also compatible with Huawei’s FCP fast charge protocol. But it is a pity that there is no Huawei SCP.

The other USB-A, that is, the protocol supported by the OUT3 port is exactly the same as the OUT1 port. Not much to explain.

The protocols supported by USB-C are also very extensive:

  • PD2.0 45W, PD3.0 PPS 5-20V 40W
  • BC1.2, DCP 5V/1.5A
  • QC3.0 5V 9V 12V 20V, QC4
  • SAMSUNG-AFC 5V 9V 12V 25W
  • HUWEI-FCP 5V 9V 18W, SCP 30W 3.6-12V/2.5A

There are still many protocols supported. Added support for PD protocol on the basis of USB-A. Support PD3.0 PPS agreement and QC4 agreement.

Support 5 PD constant voltage gears and 2 PPS intelligently adjustable voltage gears. The maximum output power of PD fast charging can reach 45W.

The included C to C data cable uses the USB2.0 transmission protocol. It can support the maximum 5A charging power and is also an indispensable data cable for charging Xiaomi 9 Pro 5G.

The following is a mobile power load test.

First test the USB-A port:

Perform charging test on Samsung Galaxy Fold. The voltage is 9.17V, the current is 1.61A, and the power is 14.78W. Turn on SAMSUNG AFC fast charge.

Huawei P30: Voltage 9.19V, current 1.12A, charging power 11.1W. Turn on FCP fast charge.

Xiaomi 9 Pro 5G: Voltage 8.92V, current 2.53A, charging power 22.54W. Turn on Charge Turbo fast charge.

Xiaomi 9: Voltage 9.53V, current 2.48A, charging power 23.65W. Turn on Charge Turbo fast charge.

Black Shark 2 Pro: Voltage 9.53V, current 2.51A, charging power 23.89W. Turn on the charge pump for fast charging.

Redmi K20 Pro: voltage 9.33V, current 2.53A, charging power 23.58W. Turn on Charge Turbo fast charge.

Miezu 16s Pro: Voltage 5.1V, current 1.8A, charging power 9.21W. There is no handshake fast charge, which means that this power bank does not support MTK PE fast charge.

Xiaomi CC9 Pro: Voltage 5.12V, current 1.38A, charging power 7.1W. There is no smooth handshaking and fast charging, and the charging process is very unstable.

iPhone X: Voltage 5.11V, current 1.78A, charging power 9.09W. Turn on APPLE 2.4A fast charge.

iPhone 11: Voltage 5.09V, current 2.22A, charging power 11.27W. Turn on APPLE 2.4A fast charge.

To summarize. The super flash charging version supports fast charging of charge pump solutions currently on the market, such as Xiaomi 9, Redmi K20 Pro, etc., and also supports fast charging of Huawei/Samsung/Apple. However, the compatibility with Xiaomi CC9 Pro is not very good, and disconnection will occur. In addition, compatibility is pretty good.

Let’s test the USB-C port:

Samsung Galaxy Fold: Voltage 8.94V, current 1.6A, charging power 14.38W. Turn on PD fast charge.

Huawei P30 Pro: Voltage 8.95V, current 1.33, power 11.92W. Turn on PD fast charge.

Xiaomi 9: Voltage 8.72V, current 2.8A, charging power 24.39W. Turn on PPS fast charge.

Black Shark 2 Pro: Voltage 9V, current 2.6A, charging power 23.41W. Turn on PPS fast charge.

Redmi K20 Pro: Voltage 8.93V, current 1.79A, charging power 16W. Turn on QC fast charge. After repeated tests, PPS fast charge is finally activated. The voltage is 9.5V, the current is 2.66A, and the charging power is 25.26W.

Xiaomi 9 Pro 5G: voltage 9.27V, current 3.92A, charging power 36.33W. Turn on super flash charge. Here is the unique function of this mobile power bank, which can quickly charge the Xiaomi 9 Pro 5G without losing power to the original charging head. However, there are restrictions on the wire, you must use the C to C wire (with E-Marker chip / support the maximum input current of 5A) to smoothly shake hands and fast charge.

Xiaomi CC9 Pro: Voltage 8.77V, current 2.86A, charging power 25.1W. Turn on fast charge. It can be seen that the port C of the mobile power supply has better compatibility with the Xiaomi CC9 Pro, there will be no disconnection, and the fast charge can be triggered smoothly.

iPhone X: Voltage 8.93V, current 1.42A, charging power 12.72W. Turn on PD fast charge.

iPhone 11: Voltage 8.91V, current 2.47A, charging power 22.02W. Turn on PD fast charge.

Switch: Voltage 15.01V, current 1.03A, charging power 15.5W. Turn on PD fast charge.

iPad Pro: Voltage 14.99V, current 1.58A, charging power 23.69W. Turn on PD fast charge.

Xiaomi notebook computer: voltage 20.04V, current 1.83A, charging power 36.68W. Turn on PD fast charge.

To summarize. The compatibility of the USB-C port is good, and it can still activate mobile phones that use charge pump fast charging solutions such as Xiaomi 9. And can charge up to 36W fast for the latest Xiaomi 9 Pro 5G.

Multiport load

USB-A and USB-C are loaded at the same time, the voltage of port A will be locked to 5V, port C will not be affected, and it can be charged quickly.

The three charging ports are loaded at the same time, the voltage of both A ports will be locked at 5V, and the C port is still not affected.

From the above test, the C port can be used with confidence. No matter how the other two A ports are loaded, the C port will not be affected.

Enter

Only supports USB-C port for input.

Use Xiaomi 9 Pro 5G original power adapter for charging input test. The voltage is 14.78V, the current is 1.86A, and the charging power is 27.51W. Turn on PD fast charge.

Use a Lenovo charger for charging input test. The voltage is 14.89V, the current is 2.61A, and the charging power is 38.91W. Turn on PD fast charge. The Lenovo charger supports PD fast charging up to 65W, so the maximum input power of the Xiaomi mobile power supply 3 (super flash charging version) is only about 40W. Consistent with official propaganda.

Conclusion

In the more than a week of using this product, the experience this product gave me can be summarized in two words: versatile and durable. The product supports 50W PD fast charging, which is applicable to more scenarios than ordinary power banks. It can not only charge mobile phones, but also USB-C interface Xiaomi notebooks, MacBooks and Switches. The high-quality lithium polymer battery of 20000mAh can last the life of the device.

If you are a user who supports QC3.0 protocol fast charging such as Xiaomi 9 and has a backup machine or other mobile devices that need to be charged frequently at the same time, Xiaomi Power Bank 3 (Super Flash Charger) is fully capable. The USB-C’s 45W recharging power can also ensure that the mobile power supply takes at least 4.5 hours from 0 to full (requires a 45W charging head).

In general, the super flash charging version is equivalent to the previous high-end version, which is basically an upgrade for the Xiaomi charge pump fast charging, and the others are basically unchanged. Therefore, users of Xiaomi 9, Redmi K20 Pro and newer versions can buy it. Considering the cost-effectiveness, other mobile phone users are still recommended to choose Xiaomi mobile power 3 (high-end version).
