The price remains unchanged and the quality is upgraded. Mijia Sonic Electric Toothbrush T500 Review.

Xiaomi launched the first Mijia sonic electric toothbrush in July 2017, which has received good market feedback with the advantage of good value for money. On August 20, 2019, Xioami released a new sonic electric toothbrush T500. At first glance, the appearance is quite similar to the first generation, but the inside is completely new. Under the premise of maintaining the price of the previous generation, a smarter brushing experience is realized.

Next, Tookfun will have a practical experience.

Appearance details

The packaging is still minimalist as always. Inside there are toothbrush handles, brush heads, chargers, manuals and color rings.

From the appearance point of view, the T500 is not much different from the previous generation. The simple matte white design is still adopted, which achieves the beauty and the hand feel is also excellent. The fuselage adopts an integrated injection molding process, and all parts are seamlessly connected. Reach IPX7 waterproof rating (no damage when immersed in 1m water for 30 minutes).

The connection area between the brush head and the handle is smooth. But according to common sense, this place is easy to hide dirt. Also need to pay attention to cleaning.

The brush head is selected from American DuPont bristles that meet FDA standards. And it uses vacuum packaging to ensure safety and sanitation.

New type of flocking technology. Different from the metal wool planting process, it does not contain metal copper sheets, will not rust, and avoid oral hazards. Compared with the previous generation of products, the amount of bristles on the brush head is increased by about 40%, which increases the contact area between the bristles and the tooth surface, thereby making tooth cleaning more efficient.

There is only one button on the handle, wrapped in a seamless process of silicone, and seamlessly connected to the injection molded case. Below the button is the display area. There are two dots, one large and one small, and a heart-shaped icon, which represents standard mode, soft mode and custom mode. Short press the button within 10 seconds in the power-on state to switch gears. The standard mode of T500 meets daily cleaning; the gentle mode is suitable for sensitive gums; the custom mode defaults to the novice mode, which can be changed in the APP. When the battery is low, the indicator will show a red breathing reminder.

The round plastic handle is relatively smooth. The bumps on the back add a certain degree of slip resistance.

Bottom charging port. The rated voltage is 3.7V and the power is 2W. Here you can see that the handle has made a small change, and the brush head has transitioned from a circle to a triangle.

Two color circles are included. If family members have the same toothbrushes, they can be distinguished by changing different colors. The color ring adopts a buckle design which is more stable.

T500 uses a wireless induction charging mode. The battery life is up to 18 days (twice a day) with a single charge, which is very convenient. The triangular limit design makes the toothbrush firmly not loose when inserted. During the charging process, the power indicator of the toothbrush will show different effects depending on the power.

Use

T500 uses a second-generation maglev sonic motor with a vibration frequency of 31,000 times per minute, but the internal structure is more refined. The first-generation motor has a diameter of 20mm, and the second-generation is reduced to 18mm, with a torque output of 230gf.cm. Compared with the first generation, the noise is lower, the vibration is less, and the tooth brushing experience is better. At the same time, it also adds an intelligent overpressure reminder function. When the toothbrush is overstretched, it will be reminded by the indicator light, and it will automatically reduce the shock to protect the teeth.

After learning, start brushing your teeth. When you start the toothbrush, you can indeed feel the low noise/little shock. The first time I put it in my mouth, it still feels a little itchy, and it takes a few more days to get used to it. During the brushing process, the zone will be reminded every 30 seconds, which is consistent with other electric toothbrushes. I have experienced that both vibration and strength are weaker than the toothbrush I used before, but I think the cleaning effect is not much worse.

Although I did not feel any discomfort during the brushing process, there was no bleeding from the gums. But I recalled the evaluation of the first generation of Mijia electric toothbrushes I had read. I wrote about the problem that the bristles of the toothbrush were not polished. I just got it this time.

The upper part is Mijia T500, and the lower part is Philips electric toothbrush. Zoom in 40 times on the left and 100 times on the right. It can be seen that the section of the bristles of T500 is relatively flat, while that of Philips is more rounded. Of course, this does not mean that Mijia’s brush head is of poor quality. Although the bristles of T500 are not round but there is no obvious burr. Moreover, with such a large sales volume, no users have reported the problem of bleeding gums caused by bristles. It can be seen that the bristles of the T500 electric toothbrush are sufficient.

T500 also supports connection to mobile APP. Mijia APP can be connected via Bluetooth.

On the APP, you can view historical data, brushing time, coverage and uniformity, etc., as well as the power of the toothbrush, usage data, remaining days of the brush head, and so on.

Personalized services can also be set in the APP. You can choose whether to turn on the splash prevention mode, the specific mode of brushing, and additional functions such as ultra-sensing whitening for 30 seconds, gum care for 30 seconds, and tongue cleaning for 10 seconds.

The “prevent splash” function is mainly to avoid the toothpaste on the electric toothbrush from being splashed around after turning on the electric toothbrush. After turning it on, we turn it on again, and we will find that the vibration frequency of the toothbrush starts from a very slight state, and then increases after 10 seconds.

In general, the functions provided in the APP are not complicated.

Conclusion

After some experience, the overall feeling of this Mijia electric toothbrush T500 is quite satisfactory.

Advantages: low working noise; can be connected to Mijia APP; can develop a variety of brushing modes; intelligent overvoltage protection; long battery life.

Insufficiency: The handle is slightly larger; the brushing force is weak; it is not equipped with a travel box.

This brand new Mijia sonic electric toothbrush T500 has obvious advantages at the same price. APP connection and overvoltage protection are usually only available in mid-to-high-end electric toothbrushes. The upgraded second-generation sonic motor is less noisy. It may be because of this that I feel that brushing my teeth is not strong enough, but it is sufficient in terms of cleaning effect. In general, this electric toothbrush has a balanced performance in all aspects without serious shortcomings. As an entry-level electric toothbrush is a good choice.
