In winter every year, the indoor humidity in the north is only about 30%, so the humidifier can be regarded as an essential small appliance. In the past few years, I have used both ultrasonic atomization humidifier and pure evaporative humidifier. But these previous products still have some shortcomings. Xiaomi recently launched a pure smart humidifier, which has solved many of the previous humidifier deficiencies. Today Tookfun will share my experience of trying this humidifier.
Mi smart evaporative humdiifer is the first pure humidifier launched by Mijia. So what is the difference between it and the traditional humidifier?
First, simply understand the working principle of the humidifier. According to the humidification principle, current humidifiers can be divided into two categories: ultrasonic humidifiers and evaporative humidifiers.
Ultrasonic humidifier
Ultrasonic humidifiers are the most common on the market. The humidification process of this type of humidifier can be divided into two steps: first, the internal ultrasonic atomization sheet beats the liquid water into fine droplets through high-frequency vibration; and then blows it out through a fan to form the water mist that everyone sees. In the second step, the water mist evaporates into water vapor and diffuses into the surrounding space, thereby increasing the humidity of the air.
The advantage of the ultrasonic humidifier is that the fog is fast. Therefore, the ambient air humidity can be increased in a short time. And the price of ultrasonic humidifier can be made very cheap, so it occupied most of the market.
However, ultrasonic humidifiers also have two inevitable problems:
- The humidity around the water mist is high, and the water mist is not easy to evaporate, so as to form water droplets and fall around the humidifier, so there will always be a pool of water near the ultrasonic humidifier.
- The sprayed water mist will carry germs in the water. After the water mist evaporates, the germs spread in the air and affect the health of the respiratory system.
Evaporative humidifier
Evaporative humidifiers rely on the natural evaporation of liquid water to increase air humidity. It sounds ordinary, what is the difference with putting a basin of water in the room? The technical difficulty of evaporative humidifiers is how to improve the evaporation efficiency of water.
Most evaporative humidifiers are designed to maximize the evaporation area of water. Because the larger the evaporation area, the faster the water will evaporate. The tool to increase the evaporation area is the grid. Although the grid styles are different, the principle is to stack two-dimensional cloth arrangements into a three-dimensional grid. Thus, a very large area is formed in a limited small space, and the water can be quickly evaporated after being immersed in water.
There are different solutions for how to send water to the grid.
- There are those that allow the grid to absorb water naturally, which is the least efficient.
- There are those that make the grid rotate like a waterwheel, which is better than natural water absorption. However, this kind of mechanical structure is bulky, easy to wear and has poor reliability. The noise will be louder if the workmanship is not good.
Mi smart evaporative humdiifer uses a water pump spray solution. As shown in the figure, the water pump sends water to the top of the grid, and then evenly drenches the entire grid, and then cooperates with the upper fan to send the water vapor out, and at the same time, the side can also suck in relatively dry air. The advantages are obvious: high evaporation efficiency, low noise, and grid replacement is also very convenient.
But this design also has a small flaw. When the water is filled, most of the grid area is immersed in water, so the effective evaporation area is much smaller. As the water level continues to drop, the evaporation area of the grid slowly becomes larger, and the evaporation efficiency becomes higher and higher. But this is also a compromise. If the grid is completely placed on the water, the volume of the entire humidifier will be doubled.
To sum up: the evaporative humidifier perfectly solves the two major shortcomings of the ultrasonic humidifier. Naturally evaporates, so there will be no water mist. Don’t worry about the accumulation of water and scale around the humidifier; at the same time, it will not bring germs in the water into the air, so you can breathe with confidence. Therefore, evaporative humidification is more suitable for sensitive people. This is in line with the current trend of focusing on health. And Mi smart evaporative humdiifer also solves the common problems of evaporative humidifiers, which is now the preferred choice. Then let’s take a look at its structure in detail.
Appearance and internal structure
In terms of appearance, Mi smart evaporative humdiifer adopts Mijia’s consistent minimalist aesthetic design. The pure white cylindrical appearance complements the modern home decoration style. Moderate body size, the humidification process is quiet enough, even if it is used in the office, it will not appear obtrusive.
This humidifier is designed to add water. You can add water directly from the top without opening the lid during use. At the same time, a crescent-shaped diversion port is also designed at the top water inlet to prevent overflow when adding water. And if you accidentally pour water into the fan when adding water, you don’t have to worry. The independent water channel design blocks the circuit, which will not cause damage to the machine, and there is no need to worry about the risk of electric shock.
The upper and lower body is designed for contact contact connection. When the fuselage is separated or lack of water, the humidifier will automatically turn on to protect and stop running, which further guarantees the safety of use.
Mi smart evaporative humdiifer uses an open large-caliber water tank design. There is almost no dead corner inside the water tank, which is convenient for daily cleaning. At the same time, the large capacity of 2.2L can meet the maximum usage time of 19 hours, so there is no need to worry about frequent water addition. I measured it and it can be used for 12 hours when filled with water at the second power. However, this time is also related to the environmental humidity. If the environmental humidity itself is very low, the water may be consumed in 8 or 9 hours.
There is a float water level detection mark on the side of the fuselage. This design adds a sense of design to the simple fuselage while also making the remaining water volume clear.
Mi smart evaporative humdiifer is equipped with a foldable water purification filter element. Composed of high-density absorbent fibers, it helps prevent impurities and bacteria in the water from evaporating into the air with water, providing more comprehensive care for mothers and infants who are sensitive to breathing, the elderly, and people who are sensitive. And this filter element can be directly washed with water to keep it clean at all times and can be replaced directly after long-term use.
As mentioned earlier, this humidifier uses a water pump spray design. There is a water pump at the bottom of the humidifier, which can pump the water directly to the top of the filter element through the water pipe inside the filter element. In this way, the lower half of the filter element is immersed in water to absorb water, and the upper half also has a steady flow of water at all times, so that the upper and lower half of the filter element can always fully absorb enough water, which greatly improves the evaporation efficiency.
At the same time, the air inlet duct surrounds the fuselage, and up to 240 wind holes take in the air at the same time, and then the moist air is sent out through the five-blade turbo fan for efficient moist air. A simple test, using the humidifier for less than two hours, the indoor humidity rose from 29% to 37%.
Use operation
This is a smart humidifier that can be operated and controlled by Mijia APP. After powering on, if the Xiaomi AIoT router is used at home, it can automatically detect the device and realize a one-key network.
After accessing the APP, you can directly control the operation on the mobile phone. Just move your finger when you need to switch the machine. When you are not at home, you can also use your mobile phone to turn on the humidifier in advance, and you can enjoy a suitable humidity environment at home. While accessing the Mijia APP, you can also use the voice assistant to control it. When it is inconvenient to pick up the phone, you can directly control the humidifier with one sentence.
As a smart humidifier, it also has a constant humidity function. After setting the desired target humidity on the APP, select the constant humidity mode, which can always keep the room constant humidity. When the humidity is lower than the set humidity, the humidifier will automatically start to humidify.
With various sensors of Xiaomi smart home, various start-stop conditions of Mi smart evaporative humdiifer can be refined. The existence of the Mijia ecological chain allows you to comprehensively consider a group of products and set up more complex scene linkage control methods. For example, when the window is opened, the air purifier and air conditioner are automatically turned off; when the window is closed, these devices are automatically turned on again. Noise level
No one likes equipment that is too noisy, especially when sleeping at night. Although almost all humidifiers advertise low noise, without exception, they are not tested at the most high-end power. Therefore, the noise of a humidifier can only be measured by the actual measurement.
Mi smart evaporative humdiifer has three gears: first gear, second gear, and constant humidity. In the second gear, the fan speed reaches the maximum, so the sound will be a bit louder, similar to the sound of a computer fan at full speed. However, sleeping at night is usually in constant humidity mode, which is much quieter and hardly hears any sound. The sound of the first mode is similar to that of constant humidity.
